Exact Cover Problem is the latest from European born, Baltimore-based Marcel D. Swamp.
Abandoning the junkyard homemade electronics of earlier releases, this tape focuses on a more sculpted, clearer sound. The drum machine rhythms are replaced by repetitive melodic themes and simple sequences, and vocals are sparse.
Exact Cover Problem addresses the sonic contemporary and explores cold calculation, with many compositional arrangements being calculated through computer algorithms. Constantly shifting through environments, it toggles between minimal and dense sounds.
Written in part in transit and at a government research facility, the sounds of Exact Cover Problem evoke senses of aggression under control and the other-worldly workings of mathematics.
